Living-Learning Community Application Process

First-Year Student Application Process for 2024-2025

By submitting this application, you acknowledge your desire to participate in one of the LLCs listed below. If you are accepted to the LLC, you will be assigned LLC housing.

  1. Take your placement testing ASAP if you are a first-year. It is recommended that students interested in LLCs place into 01:355:101 Expository Writing/College Writing or 01:355:104 College Writing Extended. Our office will review your placement scores prior to placing you into a community.
    • The Business Economics LLC and Health and Medicine LLC require math and English scores.
    • French Language and Culture requires at least two years of high school French, and no longer requires you to take the French placement exam.
    • If you have APed out of the courses related to the LLC of your choice, this opportunity is likely not the best fit for you as you will not take the courses affiliated with the LLC. You may upload scores for our office to review here.
  2. BE SURE TO REVIEW THE REQUIREMENTS AND ELIGIBILITY SECTIONS BEFORE YOU APPLY FOR A COMMUNITY THROUGH THE HOUSING APPLICATION. Go to oncampus.rutgers.edu for your housing application. When you arrive to the Living-Learning Communities page on the housing application, utilize the drop-down box to select a living-learning community based on an interest area you would like to explore. Remember you must live in the designated residence hall and take the associated course(s) in order to participate in our LLCs. You will be asked to register for a special section of the course.
  3. The Health and Medicine LLC requires a brief supplemental application in addition to the housing application. The supplemental application can be found here.
  4. If you wish to live with a specific individual, that person must apply and be accepted to the LLC as well.
  5. After we check your testing placement scores and review your housing and supplemental application (if applicable) we will notify you via email whether your application has been accepted or declined. Ensure the email you list on your application is one you can check after you’ve graduated from your current institution/left your previous institution. If your application is accepted, you will be automatically enrolled into the LLC if there is a COMPLETED housing application on file, and you will be sent an acceptance email to the email listed on your housing application.  If you wish to no longer participate, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to immediately respond to our email and make us aware of your wish to decline the LLC. If we decline your application, you will be provided an opportunity to apply for a different LLC if space and time allows. Generally, the earlier you apply, the sooner we can notify you.
  6. We will provide you with a special permission number to register yourself for a specific section of the respective course(s) at your session of New Student Orientation. You must register for a specific section of the course in order to participate in LLCs, and notify us when you have done so. Please be sure to sign up for your New Student Orientation session as soon as it is available, so that you can register for your classes.
