Students complete and submit the initial housing application to sign up and provide intent to participate in the incoming student housing selection offered in mid-June 2026. Students must participate in the process to make a housing selection of their choice. The deadline to submit this housing application is June 5, 2026 to participate in the June housing selection.

On June 17^th students who applied by the June 5^th deadline will be notified of their housing selection date and time to make a room selection. Housing selection dates and times are distributed completely at random. Housing assignments are NOT based on the date of application and are NOT made on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Students who either apply after June 5^th, do not make a selection, forget to make their selection, or miss their selection date/time will be administratively assigned to housing based on availability of space after housing selection has completed.

There is a $200 non-refundable housing deposit required at the end of the housing application payable by credit card. A completed application, including satisfying the housing deposit by June 5^th, is necessary to appear in the Roommate Directory and participate in housing selection.

Students may request one roommate on their application. Once the housing application is submitted with the housing deposit satisfied, students will be added and given access to the Roommate Directory (April ~ May). 
The Roommate Directory will be where students indicate a confirmed roommate preference or search for a potential roommate through the online matching program. The Roommate Directory will become available starting April 11^th on the Housing Portal through June 5^th. Both students must “mutually request” each other by identifying their roommate’s name and RU ID number. We do not guarantee roommate requests. A roommate request does not impact the randomly assigned date and time of your housing selection. 

We DO NOT collect campus or building preferences. Students participate in housing selection and choose from available options at the time of their selection. Not all students will be assigned to their first-choice campus or building. As selection occurs over multiple days and is live and dynamic, it is important to consider several housing options through the housing selection process. 

Students who select Rutgers Honors for their Residential Program choice will be assigned based on date of application and campus preferences. Campus preferences will be collected, and applications will be assigned on a first come first serve basis. Not all students will be assigned to their first-choice campus or building.  

It is important to participate in the process and make a choice to be assigned to a housing assignment. Students who walk away from the process are not guaranteed housing after selection concludes. 

Selecting housing in selection provides a tentative housing assignment that will be confirmed in early August when we will also provide move-in information. Residence Life reserves the right to consolidate or change housing assignments to accommodate as many students as possible based on the demand for on-campus housing.
