Business and Economics Discovery House
Quads, Livingston Campus
The Business and Economics Discovery House is a self-selected group of first-year students who will enjoy the benefits of sharing academic experiences while making new friends, exploring common interests and being a part of a close community of peers. Students will benefit from programs and activities, and having a residence life staff member provide help in acclimating to Rutgers.
This is a community for students who have a strong interest in studies related to business and economics, broadly conceived, such as finance, accounting, economic policy, data analytics, econometrics, computational economics, marketing, operations management, consulting, etc. Academic and Career advising and planning is a key element of the program.
Students accepted into the community will live in Quad III Residence Hall on the Livingston Campus. Quads offer study rooms, laundry facilities, kitchens, house lounges, as well as a main lounge. The Livingston Quads have lots of green space surrounding them and are adjacent to the Livingston Recreation Center, near Livingston Student Center, Livingston Dining Hall, and walking distance to Jersey Mike’s Arena, the Rutgers Cinema, and the Livingston Plaza.

- How to stand out at career fairs — Preparing for RU careers fairs in advance, during the fair and then what to do after
- One Major = Many Career Options – Review of major options and different career paths
- Launch Your Career: Internship Info Session – Review of gaining experience through internships, as well as how to get an internship
- What is networking? — Importance of networking and different strategies
- From Rutgers to Wall Street — Brandon Li Talk
- Connection with faculty and staff outside of the classroom
- Attendance at the involvement fair
- Participation in social events as a community e.g. football games
- Open to first-year students in all undergraduate schools
- Take a placement test ASAP (if applicable) so that we may review your scores: https://oirap.rutgers.edu/testplace.html
- Place into Calculus or higher and place into 01:355:101 College Writing, 01:355:104 College Writing Extended or AP out.
- Select Business and Economics on the Housing application
- In order to participate in an LLC, you must live in the building in which the LLC is located
LLC Orientation
Make Rutgers home! We’d like you to begin to connect with students, faculty, and staff even before the start of classes. We intend to have an LLC orientation in late August or early September. More information to come.
As a participant, you will:
- Attend community sponsored events and mentoring conversations
- Register yourself for specific LLC sections of the following courses in the fall semester: in two courses for the fall semester:
- Microeconomics
- Business First Year Interest Group Seminar (FIGS) OR:
- Economics First Year Interest Group Seminar (FIGS) - limited space
- Register yourself for specific sections of the following courses in the spring semester:
- Macroeconomics
- Computer Applications for Business (if it aligns with your major/areas of interest)
- Live-In Residence
Move-in Dates, Check-in, and Key Pickup Locations
New Students
Fall 2025 move-In dates for incoming new students (first-year and transfer students) are either Monday, August 25th, Tuesday, August 26th, or Wednesday, August 27th. For incoming first-year and transfer students, your specific move-in date and time will correspond to your housing assignment. Please adhere to your designated date and time slot based on your residence hall room assignment. Housing assignments will be sent out the first week of August and a link to your move-in information will be included in the email.
Continuing Students
Move-In dates for continuing students are Friday, August 29th, Saturday, August 30th, Sunday, August 31st and Monday, September 1st. Please check website later in the summer for specific Move-In times and key pickup locations.

Parking
Once unloaded, please move your car to any Rutgers parking lot. For safety purposes, please do not park in any undesignated lots or fire zones. Questions: www.ipo.rutgers.edu/dots
Move-In Tips
- Move Quickly. Focus on getting all your belongings in quickly. Organize items once all items are inside and you move your car to long-term parking.
- Hand Trucks. Bring hand trucks/dollies.
- Have Patience. It will be a busy day. Practice staying calm and be patient while moving in.
- Dining Halls. For more information about dining options, visit food.rutgers.edu.
- Saying Goodbye. Hug and thank your family after you finish unpacking to send them on their way. There are lots of planned activities after move-in so you don't want to miss opportunities to connect at your first community meeting and Welcome Week activities.
First Things First
In order to obtain your room keys, you must be in compliance with NJ State Law on health and immunization requirements. In addition, you will need to present a valid state/government form of identification such as a: driver’s license, passport, state-issued photo identification card, passport card, etc.
There are important policies with which residents should be familiar. It is expected that all students living in residence have read and understand the policies of on-campus living. Please take a moment to review these policies and the student code of conduct.

Prepare to Move
Your housing assignment will determine your move in date and time.
Once you receive your room assignment, consult the move-in schedule. After learning your roommate’s name(s), call your roommate(s) and try to talk several times before move-in day. Successful roommate relationships begin with reviewing and completing the roommate agreement.
Dress comfortably and be ready to move and work around less than ideal weather conditions. We recommend packing smaller, more moderately sized boxes instead of several large ones as not all halls have elevators. We recommend bringing a hand-truck, etc. to help make your move easier.
Prepare to Pack
After receiving your room assignment, you’ll want to contact your roommate and discuss what you’re planning to bring in order to avoid duplication of large items and electronics. We also encourage you to bring your own belongings to personalize your room.
With that in mind, don’t feel that you have to bring everything on your own, all at once. You can always get it later. Not all halls have elevators, so it may be better to pack a number of moderate-sized boxes that can be handled by one person rather than a few large ones. Be mindful that there is no space for storage in most halls.
In your residence hall and apartment, you will find: a twin extra-long bed frame and mattress*, closet or wardrobe, dresser, desk, chair, drapes or blinds, carpeting or tile floor, micro-fridge, and high-speed internet. Visit your residence hall page to learn what comes in your room and what you will find in your building.
Be aware of what you cannot bring into a residence hall or apartment: string lights, pets, candles, incense, refrigerator, toaster, hot plate, air conditioner, firearms, weapons, fireworks, grill and charcoal, lighter fluid, laundry machines, dish washers, deep freezers, halogen or oil lamps, heaters, hover boards, and drones. Review all residence hall guidelines.
*Sojourner Truth Apartments provide a full/double size bed rather than twin extra-long.

Get Connected
All on-campus rooms are equipped with WiFi, which you can connect to when you arrive. The Office of Information Technology provides information on getting online and other technology-related resources.
Make sure you have your RUID Card, the official university photo identification card, that gets you access to your residence hall, your dining meal plan, your RUExpress account, your library account, sporting events, and more!
Your Rutgers Email is a very important method of communication. Be sure to set up and check your Rutgers email for important announcements; it can be helpful to link your account to your smartphone for push notifications. Questions about your schedule? Within Your Hall
Be on the lookout for the date and time of your first Community Meeting held by your Resident Assistant (RA). This is where you will connect with all your floor neighbors and receive important community information!
Review the Roommate Agreement Guide + Agreement form. This will help you set the tone for a positive roommate relationship! Your RA will review this at your first community meeting.
