Students will benefit from special programs in the residence hall, and having a peer mentor in residence to provide help in answering all those Rutgers questions. This community is designed for students who have an interest in pre-medicine, and who aspire to a career in the health professions.

This program focuses on assisting students in their transition from high school to a college by sharing common first-year courses such as General Biology and writing while receiving academic and personal advisement that will help to guide students to be successful during your first year.

After participating in this community as a first-year, residents who demonstrate exemplary engagement with the community and their academic endeavors will also have the option to apply to the exclusive Health and Medicine Sophomore Year Experience to continue in the close-knit supportive environment that the LLC creates. If you are dedicated to making your first year at Rutgers both academically and socially rewarding on the road to medical school, then the Health & Medicine LLC is the perfect place to begin that journey! Please note: Applications for the Health & Medicine Living-Learning Community are available by invitation only. Eligible students will be sent an email invitation to submit an online application.

Mandatory Early Move-In and Special Orientation
Students enrolled in the program will get the added advantage/benefit of being able to move in early and participate in a special orientation program in August. This will provide first-years the chance to explore the Rutgers campus, get familiar with the bus system, and find their classes in advance.

As a participant, you will be:

  • Attending community sponsored events and monthly meetings
  • Co-enrolled in three first-year courses for the fall semester:

Note:  At your academic planning and advising day, you will be able to choose 2-3 other classes toward your academic interests. This is a perfect balance because it allows you to be both part of a smaller community and have access to all other Rutgers course offerings as well.

*Students with advanced placement credit for linked courses are still eligible for this program and are not required to enroll in the course(s) for which they have credit.

Application Process

1. Students should taken the Rutgers English and Math placement test ASAP, unless you have exemptions, so that we have access to your scores. Students determined to be eligible will receive an e-mail invitation to submit an online living-learning community application for Health and Medicine LLC. Invitations to the LLC will commence in April and will be ongoing as placement test scores are received by the Learning Communities unit.
2. Indicate your interest for the Health and Medicine LLC via pre-APA day materials for SAS students or via the first-year pre-registration Online Form for SEBS students.
3. If you are chosen for the LLC, you will be placed in BEST Hall on the Busch Campus, regardless of the campus preferences you’ve indicated in your housing application. This means that students should complete the first-year housing application at oncampus.rutgers.edu indicating their actual campus preferences, taking into account that they might not get accepted into the Health and Medicine Living-Learning Community.
