Locked Out?

Residence Life provides an emergency contact for room lockouts 24/7/365.  Follow the instructions below to find out how to get help.

Use the lockout app on your phone to get the exact number to call based on where you live and the time of day!  Visit ruoncampus.rutgers.edu/mobile on your phone to get started.

If you are locked out between 8:30am - 5pm, Monday - Friday you should:

  1. Look for your roommate! Often times, your roommate is the quickest way back into your room.
  2. Check to see if your RA/AA is in their room. RA/AA's have access to master keys in the building to let you back into your room; however, they are students too. They are not expected to be in their rooms 24 hours a day.
  3. Can't find your roommate? Can't find your RA/AA? Come to the Student Service Office for your campus and they will issue you a spare key that must be returned.

If you are locked out between 5pm - 8pm, Monday - Friday you should:

  1. Look for your roommate!
  2. Call the Campus Duty number for your campus.  There is a specific number to call for lockouts during the 3 hour period when the Student Service Office closes and regular RA duty begins at 8pm.

If you are locked out during all other times, including weekends, you should:

  1. Look for your roommate!
  2. Call the RA/AA on duty for your building.  The Duty phone number and schedule are always posted outside in your community/floor and throughout the building.
