Information for Non-Graduating Students Information for Graduating Students Returning Your Room Key
Non-Graduating Students
All non-graduating students staying in 9-month residence halls and apartments must vacate their space within 24 hours of their last final exam OR Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. (whichever comes first). Card ID access will be de-activated at this time.
Pre-Summer and Summer Session Housing
Pre-Summer Housing and Summer Session Housing is available for non-graduating students. Pre-summer housing is available from May 9 to May 26, 2024. Summer session housing is available for the full duration of the summer academic session starting May 26, 2024. We offer contracts of varying lengths depending on your academic schedule. Pre-summer and Summer Session Housing is offered at Stonier Hall and Summer Session Housing is offered in the Livingston Apartments on Livingston Campus.
Pre-Summer Housing is available to students who commit to a summer housing contract.
Graduating Seniors
Graduating seniors living in residence halls and apartments must vacate their space within 24 hours of their last final exam OR Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. (whichever comes first).
Graduating graduate students with an academic year housing contract may remain in their space until May 13th.
Graduating graduate students with a full annual contract may remain in their space until May 31st at 10am.
Extended Spring Housing for Graduating Seniors
Out-of-state graduating seniors, international graduating seniors, or any graduating senior with a hardship that prevents them from going home on May 9, 2024 and returning for graduation ceremonies may extend their stay in their existing space. Graduating seniors who wish to remain in the existing space beyond May 9, 2024 must complete the Extended Spring Housing for Graduating Seniors form. All graduating seniors who are approved for extending housing must vacate their space by 12 p.m. the day following their graduation ceremony. Card ID access will be de-activated at this time.
Returning Your Room Key
- Key return envelopes will be made available to you in your residence hall or your campus Residence Life office. Complete the information on the outside of the envelope in its entirety. Key return envelopes will be made available to you in residence hall or your campus Residence Life office.
- Make sure to complete all pre-printed fields on the key return envelope.
- Place your key(s) inside the envelope and seal the envelope securely.
- Upon moving out of your room, return your key at an official key drop-off location
- After a key is returned, you will receive an email notification confirming that you have been officially “checked out.” Keep this receipt for your records. Due to the large volume of key returns, notification emails may be delayed for up to one week.
- Residents may be assessed a fee per key for any keys that are not returned by Thursday, May 9, 2024.
- Busch Campus
- Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.: Return key(s) directly to the Busch Campus Residence Life Office located at the Buell Apartments (55 Bevier Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854).
- Weekdays after 5 p.m. and weekends: Return key(s) to the Busch Campus Residence Life Key Drop box located outside and to the right of the office entrance door

- College Avenue Campus
- Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Return key(s) directly to the Residence Life College Avenue Campus Office located at Clothier Hall (590 George Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901).
- Weekdays after 5 p.m. and weekends: Return key(s) to the Residence Life Office key drop box located outside and to the left of the office entrance beneath the red awning. Follow the instructions on the sign next to the key return drop box.
- Students living in Sojourner Truth and University Center can return their key(s) using the key return drop box located in their buildings.

- Cook/Douglass Campus
- Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Return key(s) directly to the Cook/Douglass Campus Residence Life Cook/Douglass Campus Office (PAL Building), 45 Biel Road West, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
- Weekdays after 5 p.m. and weekends: Return key(s) to the Cook/Douglass Residence Life Office Key Drop box located outside of the PAL building facing the parking lot.

- Livingston Campus
- Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Return key(s) directly to the Residence Life Livingston Campus Office located at Lynton South Tower (70 Joyce Kilmer Avenue, Piscataway, NJ 08854).
- Weekdays after 5 p.m. and weekends: Return key(s) to the key return drop box located in the vestibule area directly between the outer and inner entrances of the Livingston Campus Office.

Move-Out Checklist
- Remove all items from your microfridge/refrigerator and clean inside. In apartments, please wipe down and empty all kitchen drawers, counters and appliances.
- Remove personal items from walls, windows, and doors. Please use caution when removing adhesives from walls to avoid damage to paint and other surfaces. Remember to close windows, open blinds, and lock your doors before departure.
- All university-issued furniture should be accounted for prior to your departure. Please return the furniture to its original location. Remove or properly dispose of personal furniture items, (rugs, futons, chairs, etc.). Residence Life cannot store belongings during the summer months.
- Remove all personal items from your room. Any items left behind will be disposed of. Floors and furniture surfaces should be cleaned.
- Institutional Planning and Operations may assess a cleaning fee for those rooms left in bad condition, have sustained damage, or have missing furniture or appliances. To avoid fees, we advise that you leave your space in its move-in condition. Dispose of all garbage and unwanted items in the residence hall garbage room or nearby dumpster.
- Report any maintenance or facilities issues prior to moving out.
- 24-hour Quiet Hours are in effect during reading days and exam periods. During this time, all residents are expected to continue to adhere to residence hall policies and not serve as a distraction for other students preparing for final exams.
