An annual week-long sex education series, Sexapalooza recently wrapped up its fifth year on the Rutgers University-New Brunswick campus.
A collaborative initiative between Residence Life and several campus partners, including Health Outreach, Promotion and Education (H.O.P.E.) and Recreation, Sexapalooza educates students on topics of sexual health and wellness, relationships, and intimacy.
“We had over 300 students attend our various events, which occurred on all five neighborhoods of the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus,” says Residence Life Coordinator Misty Denham-Barrett.
Comprised of residence life professionals and graduate students, the planning committee scheduled programming from Oct. 17-25, ranging from free HIV testing to discussions about online dating.
Teaming up with Rutgers Recreation, Sexapalooza also hosted a partner yoga event (Oct. 19) before working with H.O.P.E. and the Office of Violence Prevention and Victim Assistance to support the New Brunswick Domestic Violence Awareness Coalition’s Annual March and Rally Against Domestic Violence on Oct. 23.
Sex in the Dark, a safer sex discussion featuring Maria Falzone, concluded the week-long initiative on Oct. 25 with a conversation that aimed to debunk myths, talk about resources offered at Rutgers, and provide factual information on sexual health and diseases.
